Mother's Day and The First EVER All Female Surf Video
about the women of the Northeast from Surf Free Or Die.

This is my late mother Eva before she was a mother, or a wife for that matter.

I first saw this photo for the first time about 2 years ago. My cousin had this at his mother's wake. My mother and his mother were sisters. It's strange seeing your parents before they were parents. But one thing's for certain, she sure was beautiful.

This is my mother Eva, and my late sister Evamarie. My mother had six kids and 8 grandchildren. Evamarie had one daughter and one grandson that my sister adored. I miss them every single day. Happy Mother's Day to you both.

And this beautiful woman is my Mother-in-law Judith. This pic was taken last month. I don't know where I heard this saying, but I never forgot it. "If you want to know what your wife is going to look like later in life, take a good look at your Mother-in-law." BAM!

It's obvious where Cory gets her good looks. All Blushing/kidding aside, I love Judith. She's the best mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother to our three kids. And she's also got two beautiful grand children. Must be something in the water back in Morris Illinois.

And of course there's Cory. Mother and grandmother. She's one special woman. And we're lucky to have her in our lives. I know how lucky I am.
She's also a Surf Mom. There are so many Surf moms these days. Some
who actually surf, and some who take pics of surfing. Cory is one of the latter.
As long as there's a beach with surf, there will be surf moms.

I picked this pic of Cory because there's something about that Wall. In fact, the Yesterday pic this week is two women sitting on the wall in 1975. Not much has changed. Except, that more women are surfing today than ever before. There was a time when there were no women surfers around here. Not anymore. The surf breaks have seen an increasing number of woman taking up the lifestyle. And you know what? They're getting pretty damn good.

Like this talented Surf Mom. Erica Nardone. A hardcore goofyfoot that charges all the big surf we get around here. She's out there battling with the elements and the boys. And she can hold her own in any condition.

I think it was about 3 or 4 years ago when I mentioned to Erica that I wanted to do an ALL GIRL surf video. She was the only woman I approached on the subject. She was very receptive. I mean there are a lot of good woman surfers around here. Lots. And honestly this is long overdue.

So I am committed to making the FIRST ever ALL Women surf video of the girls of the Northeast. I have over 25 names of legit women surfers and women photographers. Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
It's going to happen.

Here's the first promo on the video.

Like I said, I have over 25 names of women surfers who live and surf here.
This is going to be a fun project.

This week's Ed's corner surfer is Noreen Ward Lynch. Ed loved shooting Noreen because of her cool flair. Plus she always wears a hat. Noreen is a surf mom. Her and her husband Mike love surfing, and their little guy Mikey is right behind them.

To see more of Ed's pics just scroll through the archives. He has shot so many pics for the blog. Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog. Photo by Ed O'Connell

Now for Some More Of My Weekly Global Observances
It was 50 years ago on May 12th, 1967 that the music world would change forever with the release of Are You Experienced by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. I can't believe that was 50 years ago!

One of the songs on this LP I used in the video I did this week. It's amazing how that 50 year old song still sounds fresh.

OK what better way to celebrate Mother's Day than a 7th Game Victory against the Wizzards! C'mon "C's" you can do this. You only lost by 1pt on Friday. You got this.

Here's the 2017 Patriots schedule.

The 3rd annual 5k walk for cancer is this month. Saturday May 20th, 2017 at the American Legion Post 35 in Hampton. Having known Steve McCarthy since the early 70's I will be attending (again) and my band The Nor'easters featuring my brother Johnny and I on guitar and vocals, Lenny Dunn on drums, and Rich Appel on bass will be playing from 12 noon to 2:30.
It's a great cause for a great man and his family. Sign-ups are in the morning at the Legion and I believe the walk kicks off around 11:00AM.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
Here's a rare photo of KSM and his mother taking a little swim break from Al Qeada training in Afghanistan. They loved swimming together.

The Burka is a must wear bathing suit for Al Qeada mothers. Check out KSM's sunburn. Hope mom put some sunscreen on his hairy back.

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Sun Screen at Home Depot
this week.

Prayers and positive thoughts to Erica Nardone's recovery.

Prayers and positive thoughts to surfer Jason Kooken who suffered
a spinal cord injury in New Jersey last month.

CONGRATULATIONS to Brian And Sam Nevins on the birth
of their daughter Emma! Just in time for Mother's Day!
HAPPY Mother's Day to ALL the Moms, past, present, and future.

My CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. (Click On the Banner below

A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.
Yesterday- Girls On The Wall. 1975
(Below) The other day when I was driving along Ocean Blvd I couldn't help but notice the many girls sitting up on the Wall. Every summer they come to sit on that uncomfortable cement wall and soak in a few rays. Truth is girls have been hanging on the wall as long as the boys have. It's part of our culture.
This typical summer scene was shot some 42 years ago. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The Forgotten Go Pro Footage 2014-2016 Part 1
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This is a series of web edits that was all shot on my old GoPro. How old? Well it's the HERO II. So that's 3 GoPros ago. Did I just write that? I guess I did. Any way, this first edit was shot on the last day of Summer in 2014. The surfers are (that I can remember) : Perry Reynolds, Kai Nichols, Lenny Nichols, Mike Rosa, Zach Bru, Bryan Johnson, Kyle Linesman, Kenny Linseman, and a bunch of others. *You might want to take some Dramamine before watching this. It's all water shots, so no tripods were used. Music is by Trentemoller and Grenier.

The Forgotten GoPro Footage Part II 2014-2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

More of the GoPro footage I had lying around. It's pretty much small wall footage. Though, it is noteworthy a the clips of Kevin Grondin were all shot on his birthday last Jun 23d, 2016. The rest is mostly empty waves with Mackey getting a few. The real cool thing about this web edit is. 50 years ago today, May 12th, 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their debut LP. This song was on that record. And I remember it all like it was yesterday. Funny thing is, the song is as current today as it was 50 years ago. Do check it out.

This is the life story of three-time world champion surfer Andy Irons who died at age 32 from a heart attack with the secondary cause being an acute mixture of drugs. Andy and his brother, Bruce, came from humble beginnings on the small Hawaiian island of Kauai.

Director Todd Jones on the Kickstarter campaign. "We privately financed the film. We do not want any corporate influence in it because we wanted to true story to be our soul focus and did not want any external forces influencing our decision process."

The film chronicles Andy's struggles with dyslexia, bipolar disease, self-medication, addiction, fame, success, and failure. Andy was a blue collar people's champ who dealt with the same issues millions of people around the world struggle with every day. He died on November 2, 2010. His wife was eight months pregnant with their son, Axel, at the time.
